Updates on the Development of the Aerosol Modeling Testbed

چکیده
The current paradigm in the scientific community of developing and testing new aerosol process modules is haphazard and slow. Aerosol modules are often tested for short simulation periods using limited data so that their overall performance over a wide range of meteorological conditions is not thoroughly evaluated. While several model intercomparison studies have been performed that quantify the differences among aerosol modules, the range of answers provides little insight on how to best improve aerosol predictions. Understanding the true impact of an aerosol process module is also complicated by the fact that other processes such as emissions, meteorology, and chemistry are often treated differently.

The Aerosol Modeling Testbed: Coordinating the Development of Aerosol Treatments using WRF-chem
The direct (scattering and absorption of radiation) and indirect (cloud-aerosol interactions) effects of aerosols predicted by climate models still contain large uncertainties. To address this issue, the goal of a new project which began this year is to develop an Aerosol Modeling Testbed (AMT) that streamlines the process of testing and evaluating refined aerosol process modules over a wide ra...
متن کاملDevelopment and Testing of an Aerosol-Stratus Cloud Parameterization Scheme for Middle and High Latitudes
The aim of this new project is to develop an aerosol/cloud microphysics parameterization of mixed-phase stratus and boundary layer clouds. Our approach is to create, test, and implement a bulk-microphysics/aerosol model using data from Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Cloud and Radiation Testbed (CART) sites and large-eddy simulation (LES) explicit bin-resolving aerosol/microphysics mode...

Application of multivariate techniques in-line with spatial regionalization of AOD over Iran Introduction Models, satellites and terrestrial datasets have been used to detect and characterize aerosol. Nontheless, micoscale classification using remote sensing parameters considers as a deficiency. Thus, regionalizion and modeling aerosol without regard to political boundaries or a specific s...
متن کاملMODELING OF ASPHALTENE DEPOSITION IN PIPELINES
This paper is concerned with asphaltene deposition in fluid flowing through pipelines. Brownian diffusion and drag, gravitational, thermophoresis, buoyancy, and shear removal are considered as possible mechanisms in the asphaltene deposition process. The thermo-physical properties of the fluid were obtained from Iranian oil fields. A model was used in the pipeline deposition modeling to predict...
متن کاملSpatio-temporal variability of aerosol characteristics in Iran using remotely sensed datasets
The present study is the first attempt to examine temporal and spatial characteristics of aerosol properties and classify their modes over Iran. The data used in this study include the records of Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) and Angstrom Exponent (AE) from MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and Aerosol Index (AI) from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI), obtained from 2005 t...
